Este libro colectivo ofrece una visión panorámica y transversal sobre el termalismo y el veraneo en la España de los siglos XIX, XX e inicios del XXI en sus distintas facetas y partiendo de múltiples perspectivas, que abarcan desde la historia económica, social y cultural o la geografía humana hasta la antropología, la historia del arte o los estudios literarios.
En los doce capítulos que lo integran -firmados por dieciséis autores procedentes de siete universidades españolas, una inglesa y cuatro instituciones de investigación- se ha priorizado la profundización analítica sobre la mera representatividad territorial. Con ello se pretende aportar, a la par que una necesaria revisión historiográfica o distintos estudios de caso, un elenco de reflexiones y de puntos de vista teóricos y metodológicos que puedan resultar útiles para futuras investigaciones en un área temática -la de los precedentes históricos del turismo y las distintas implicaciones económicas, sociales y culturales de los mismos- que hoy aparece como prometedora en el ámbito de las ciencias sociales y humanas.
