En el marco de los eventos que la Academia Colombiana de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales ha venido realizando para conmemorar la vida y obra de Francisco José de Caldas, reconocido como el primer investigador científico colombiano, se llevó a cabo la Cuarta Jornada Caldas en Manizales. Como producto de dicha jornada se publican las memorias del evento, en las cuales están plasmadas las conferencias dictadas en honor a las contribuciones de Francisco José de Caldas en cuanto a la comprensión del clima, la botánica, las especies de insectos, su participación en temas de política y su campaña por la independencia.
