Textos escogidos (1976-21) tiene como propósito central que los lectores de hoy y de mañana puedan percibir y disfrutar la escritura inteligente, erudita, divertida y mordaz de un auténtico intelectual del Caribe, de un espíritu singular e inconforme, de un bohemio lúcido, de un humanista generoso que no eludía interrogantes, pues, según la poeta Meira Delmar, su gran amiga, conocía como pocos «el nombre de los ángeles, de las estrellas y los árboles. Como si todo sobre la tierra y en el cielo fuese una sola familia». En sus manos tiene el lector una obra que es el resultado de largos años de investigación y levantamiento de fuentes, dirigidos por Carmen Elisa Escobar y Orlando Araújo Fontalvo, quienes vieron en esta monumental tarea de largo aliento un esfuerzo más que justificado por brindar una significativa muestra del trasegar intelectual de Campo Elías por medios como su columna «La Próxima», publicada en el Diario del Caribe, la revista Huellas, el Suplemento del Caribe, el Magazín Dominical de El Espectador, la Guía cultural del Caribe y la Revista Dominical de El Heraldo.
