Casandara del desarrollo regional: la Liga Costeña de 1919
En 2019 se cumplieron 100 años de la creación de la Liga Costeña, una iniciativa promovida por los principales empresarios de la Costa Caribe colombiana. Estos se unieron para defender los intereses económicos de la región, ya que sentían que estaban siendo vulnerados por el gobierno central de la época. En ese momento la región Caribe estaba constituida por los departamentos de Magdalena, Atlántico, Bolívar, la Intendencia de La Guajira y la Comisaria de San Andrés y Providencia. También incluyeron a la Intendencia del Chocó. Sin embargo, en su composición y trayectoria la Liga Costeña estuvo dirigida casi exclusivamente por personas oriundas de Barranquilla, Cartagena y Santa Marta.
