Hace décadas, los comerciantes y comisionistas de estas piedras preciosas se reúnen allí para comprar y vender la materia prima extraída de las minas. Los movimientos inquietos e incesantes, tanto de las esmeraldas como de las personas, y la manera cómo han cambiado por la formalización minera y la presencia de las multinacionales en el occidente de Boyacá son aspectos que se siguen esta investigación. La autora argumenta que la luz, las calles y los sobres son infraestructuras del comercio tradicional que sostienen la circulación de piedras, personas e información y que fueron transformadas por infraestructuras propias de la formalización como el Rucom, el rut y el Certificado de Origen generando nuevos arreglos creativos como los ruteros, las oficinas de exportación y las gangas.
