El deporte, como elemento novedoso a fines del siglo XIX y más claramente en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, se consolidó como un espacio de confrontación simbólica relevante para la configuración moderna del periodismo chileno. Más importante aún, las revistas lograron conciliar elementos de la cultura popular (imaginarios colectivos, costumbres locales, aspiraciones sociales) con elementos de la emergente cultura de masas e incorporar dichos elementos dentro de la cultura política chilena que edificó el Estado a mediados del siglo XX.
