Descendientes de africanos en la Independencia es el octavo volumen de la Biblioteca Afrocolombiana de las Ciencias Sociales. Su autor nos muestra
con un lenguaje sencillo y preciso por qué al libertador Bolívar le interesó poco, o casi nada, dar la carta de libertad jurídica a los afros. A pesar de que lo pudo hacer en 1821 en el Congreso de Cúcuta, se negó a hacerlo; por el contrario, mandó a fusilar a líderes y héroes negros y mulatos que participaron en el proyecto independentista, tales como Piar y Padilla. Al desenredar esta falsa trama histórica y al desmitificar la figura del héroe Bolívar, Sergio Mosquera está haciendo etnoeducación, etnohistoria; está reinventando el paradigma de las ciencias sociales en Colombia.
