Aldo Mascareño, es doctor en Sociología de la Universidad de Bielefeld, Alemania (2001). Ha sido Director del Departamento de Sociología de la Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Chile y editor general desde el año 2006 de la revista Persona y Sociedad. Sus principales temas de investigación son teoría sociológica, sociología de América Latina, sociología del derecho, campos en los que cuenta con variadas publicaciones. Pronto a aparecer está su libro Die Moderne Lateinamerikas, por editorial Sigma de Berlín. En palabras de Daniel Chernilo, de la Universidad de Loughborough, entender las relaciones entre lo universal y lo particular de nuestra modernidad es el desafío constitutivo de la sociología latinoamericana.
