Por otro lado, cuando un pueblo renuncia a su libertad en favor del gobierno –libertad para elegir entre opciones morales, económicas, religiosas y sociales, y asumir la responsabilidad personal por las consecuencias–, la virtud tiende a diluirse y la fe misma se va enfriando. La teocracia es la destrucción de la libertad humana en el nombre de Dios. El libertinaje es la destrucción de las normas morales en el nombre de la libertad. Nada de eso funciona. El vínculo entre libertad económica y moralidad pública no es tenue; es claro y directo.
