De ahí que en el presente libro se aborden muy diversos asuntos, relacionados no solo con lo urbano en sentido estricto, sino también con la política (que no en vano viene de polis), con la sociedad e, incluso, con la vida (con la ciudad y sus alrededores, como se anuncia, no sin cierta ironía, en el título). Se trata, en definitiva, de poner en ideas aquel principio general formulado por Peter Sloterdijk según el cual lo que define al ser humano es precisamente el hecho de que es un animal constructor de ciudades.
