En el presente libro queremos volver la mirada sobre nuestra experiencia actual de la temporalidad, para reflexionar sobre la historia, el esperar humano y la esperanza cristiana, analizar sus fundamentos antropológicos y teológicos, sus relaciones y tensiones, sus dificultades y avances, sus condiciones de posibilidad, apertura y comunicación. No se puede desconocer que en la actualidad coexisten diversas miradas sobre el complejo tiempo presente que nos toca vivir e interpretar. Se observa una corriente de desesperanza, resignación y escepticismo en grandes capas de nuestra sociedad, particularmente entre los intelectuales de diverso signo. Pero hay razones poderosas para evitar esta reducción del tiempo humano a un puro y solitario presente: hay demasiada tragedia acumulada, demasiada muerte temprana e injusta. En verdad, la historia sigue siendo el lugar de la espera, en tanto la conciencia humana no renuncia a imaginar el futuro y a diseñar días mejores para todos.
