Este libro sintetiza buena parte del trabajo colectivo del equipo docente la cátedra de Teorías de la Educación y Sistema Educativo Argentino. A lo largo de seis capítulos, estudia la institucionalización de la educación en sistemas escolares, la historia de la estructura académica del sistema educativo en el marco de la organización del Estado Nacional, la organización de la educación primaria y secundaria argentinas, la del nivel universitario y las redefiniciones durante el primer peronismo. El balance final de la obra deja trazadas líneas de investigación sobre el conjunto del sistema educativo, bajo el prisma de su estructura académica.
