José Pedro Galvão de Sousa (1912-1992), catedrático de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de São Paulo (Brasil), cultivó con gran competencia las materias iuspolíticas, singularmente desde un ángulo filosófico. Autor de manuales de teoría del Estado y de derecho político brasileño, ejemplares en su género, entre sus monografías más destacadas se halla una sobre la representación política, publicada en versión castellana con anterioridad en esta colección.
Este volumen recoge seis breves textos que giran sobre el poder, el Estado y la Constitución, contemplados desde el ángulo del derecho natural clásico. Salvo el cuarto, publicado en la revista mejicana Vertebración el año 1989, todos los demás textos vieron la luz en Verbo, "revista de formación cívica y acción cultural según el derecho natural y cristiano", fundada en 1961 por Eugenio Vegas Latapié y Juan Vallet de Goytisolo. En ocasiones los subtítulos se han añadido por el editor.
