Un aporte de este libro tiene que ver con la perspectiva con que se define y se analiza a las élites en general. El “¿Son o se hacen?” se refiere tanto al tipo de élite que representan como a sus reacciones principales ante el reciente contexto de demandas ciudadanas y de aparente “malestar”. Más precisamente, si son capaces de procesarlas y de revisar su propio comportamiento generando algún tipo de aprendizaje y transformación de sus propias preferencias y mapas cognitivos y culturales. O, si más bien y ante el desconcierto generalizado, terminan repitiendo en forma refleja respuestas ya ensayadas.
