El área en que se encuentra el alma mater de los vallecaucanos es un espacio del sur de Cali en que la presencia de la Universidad ha ayudado a recuperar una zona verde entre sus arboledas y zonas abiertas.
Con sus 180 especies de árboles y arbustos, el campus universitario además, de aportar oxigeno, naturaleza y frescura ambiental, acoge una vida silvestre admirable por su diversidad.
La fauna tan diversa que puede encontrarse en el campus es reflejo de la fauna típica de la ciudad, en conjunto con otras especies que llegan gracias a la cercanía a la cordillera y áreas boscosas aledañas que se conectan con la universidad por medio de cadenas de árboles.
