Sinopsis
¿Por qué un poeta mexicano del siglo XXI decide traducir un texto inglés de hace 200 años? Un texto, además, de un escritor, Percy B. Shelley, perteneciente a un movimiento, el romanticismo inglés, que no ha tenido en nuestro idioma la presencia e influencia que tuvieron el alemán y el francés. Mendiola nos quiere dar un Shelley actual, un autor vivo en sentido literario, es decir, que nos sigue hablando a nosotros sus lectores de hoy. Lo que se (sobre) escribe es la confianza en que a la muerte se impone la poesía, no como consuelo sino como afirmación de vida. Y la muerte de Keats provoca Adonáis: un poema de admiración y amistad. La distancia es perspectiva y al traducir un poema de hace dos siglos podemos ver mejor la poesía que se escribe hoy. Esa es una de las razones por las que traducir se ha vuelto una práctica tan importante hoy día, no tanto una reescritura sino una sobreescritura. Así un poeta mexicano de principios del siglo XXI quiere hacer de un romántico inglés su contemporáneo. Más aún nos propone ver todo pasado como sentido del presente, al igual que todo futuro.
