En 1982 el novelista mexicano Fernando del Paso propuso un asalto de los novelistas latinoamericanos a la historia oficial. El presente volumen consiste en una colección de ensayos académicos que intenta verificar hasta qué punto esta propuesta revitalizadora puede aplicarse tanto a los escritores como a los críticos literarios que se dedican a estudiarlos. Los diez capítulos que compone este libro ofrecen una muestra amplia de la ficción histórica hispanoamericana reciente y sugieren nuevas lecturas desde los estudios de género, el feminismo, la historiografía posmoderna, la reflexión filosófica y la crítica del arte, entre otros. Así el asalto a la historia hegemónica, las ya conocidas formas de novelarla y las articulaciones críticas de ellas que plantea este libro somete la reciente ficción histórica a una saludable revisión.
