Actualmente el uso de tecnologías en la migración es un factor determinante en el control fronterizo de flujos humanos. En ese sentido, la biometría adquiere mayor utilidad como elemento de seguridad migratoria, pues es un mecanismo que se emplea para configurar grandes bases de datos de migrantes. Hecho que la academia y las instituciones defensoras de derechos humanos miran con preocupación.
Si bien estos temas han comenzado a tener más relevancia en la dinámica migratoria de la región, son escasos los estudios que se han realizado desde esta perspectiva. Así, las ocho investigaciones que componen esta obra intentan mostrar las complejidades y los peligros de la triple relación entre biometría, protección de datos y derechos humanos de migrantes irregulares en tránsito. Su propósito es discutir este tema entre investigadores y estudiantes para enriquecer y profundizar su contenido.
