Este libro fue oríginalmente publicado en Buenos Aires bajo el título Cita con la memoria, traducido al inglés como Encounter with Memory (Bloomington, Indiana, Estados Unidos) y ahora publicado en la ciudad de México. Este libro se divide en dos partes: por un lado, la primera presenta la vida de Elena Garro, desde su nacimiento hasta su muerte, a partir de información obtenida de mis entrevistas con ella durante los veranos de 1993 a 1997 y ,sobre todo, la realizada el 24 de abril de 1998, cuando me cuenta detalles íntimos y sorprendentes de su vida que habían permanecido inéditos, pidíendome que los publicara después de su muerte, "porque el mundo tiene que saber la verdad". Por otro, en la segunda parte se realiza un análisis de sus obras más trascendentes.
Finalmente, invito a leer este volumen con una mente abierta, con una curiosidad intelectual para conocer más sobre esta extraordinaria escritora mexicana expulsada de su país por defender las tierras de los campesinos de Ahuatepec, estado de Morelos.
