Esta obra sitúa al lector ante las líneas de desarrollo más influyentes en la filosofía de la ciencia contemporánea. Para ello reconstruye la evolución reciente de la disciplina y sugiere algunas nuevas perspectivas que respondan a los problemas planteados por los enfoques tradicionales, y que sean útiles para la comprensión de la ciencia en una era en la que su papel social está puesto en cuestión.En la primera parte del libro se ofrece un panorama de las principales cuestiones y corrientes de pensamiento que han dominado la filosofía de la ciencia en las últimas tres décadas, en especial el problema de las relacines entre la historia de la ciencia y la filosofía de la ciencia, así como la tradición semántica en filosofía de la ciencia y el naturalismo científico.En la segunda parte se desarrollan varias líneas de investigación que permiten abordar el análisis de los problemas pragmáticos de la ciencia mediante algunas herramientas conceptuales coherentes con los enfoques epistemológicos más típicos de la filosofía de la ciencia tradicional.
