Sinopsis
Diego Gelmírez, obispo y primer arzobispo de Santiago entre los años 1100 y 1140, es personaje bien conocido de los historiadores. Él mismo se ocupó de poner sólida base para que así fuera, con el encargo a varios clérigos de su iglesia de que escribieran la larga crónica de sus gestas, que conocemos con el nombre de Historia Compostelana. Este excepcional monumento historiográfico del siglo XII proyecta sobre el prelado la intensa luz que atrae sobre él, una y otra vez, la mirada de los interesados por el tiempo pasado. Más que de sus perfiles biográficos o de su figura de hombre de iglesia, aspectos ya bien estudiados, se ocupa este libro de la proyección específicamente política de Gelmírez, de la capacidad que tiene para revelar la estructura y el ejercicio del poder feudal en el triple escenario de la cristiandad, el reino y el señorío.
