Dimensiones del realismo materialista y dialéctico en la tetralogía de los petroleros de Gerardo de la Torre es un análisis crítico de la producción literaria más representativa de este escritor, enfocado en cuatro novelas cuyo leitmotiv gira en torno al proletariado petrolero mexicano: Ensayo general (1970), Muertes de Aurora (1980), Hijos del Águila (1988) y Los muchachos locos de aquel verano (1992). En éstas se analiza profundamente la presencia de un movimiento o método interno y dinámico dentro de un realismo materialista y dialéctico, a través de tres aspectos fundamentales: la evidente presencia ideológica del autor implícito, la identificación de cronotopos y la caracterización de lo grotesco como elemento fundamental en la construcción de los personajes. Por medio de este tipo de realismo, el presente análisis cree firmemente que Gerardo de la Torre logra una revalorización e innovación del canon literario mexicano.
