Juan Fernando Herrán, Juan Manuel Echavarría, Clemencia Echeverri, Óscar Muñoz y Doris Salcedo hacen parte de una generación de artistas colombianos cuyo trabajo está imbricado profundamente con las realidades sociales, políticas y ambientales del país. En El arte del contrapunto y la paradoja se propone que sus obras también coinciden en aludir a dimensiones existenciales y simbólicas vinculadas a ciclos vitales y naturales, lo que sugiere conexiones significativas con los conceptos de memento y memento mori.
Estas creaciones artísticas presentan intrigantes e inusuales contrapuntos. Vestigios, indicios y objetos que señalan la presencia de seres humanos coexisten con material orgánico, sustancias y procesos naturales; todos ellos efímeros y en permanente cambio. Evocan paradójicamente el paso del tiempo, la vulnerabilidad y la muerte, a la vez que resaltan la fuerza y el poder de las imágenes y la vida. A través de este contrapunto y esta paradoja fundamentales insisten en la necesidad del arte.
