El canto onírico de las sirenas: ironía y (des)amor en la narrativa breve de René Avilés Fabila es un trabajo ensayístico de
análisis crítico en torno a los relatos breves y más representativos de este escritor mexicano. Con base en los relatos
contenidos en Hacia el fin del mundo, Todo el amor, Todo el amor 1970-1995, La lluvia no mata las flores y Lejos del Edén,
la Tierra, se identifican peculiaridades presentes en los cuentos de Avilés Fabila, que los distinguen de sus novelas,
además de los rasgos satíricos que le permiten al escritor subvertir los mitos de dominio público de extracción clásica
y popular a través de los cuales logra criticar los vicios y defectos de la sociedad que le rodea.
A partir de consideraciones teóricas de diversos críticos literarios, se evidencia que en la obra del autor mexicano también se halla la intención constante de la cristalización del amor idealizado, lo cual se suma a las intenciones de subversión y desmitificación presentes en todo el corpus de Avilés Fabila.
