A lo largo de la historia algunos desarrollos tecnológicos han enfrentado resistencias como lo son la cultura de la cancelación y las políticas prohibicionistas. Las innovaciones tecnológicas se constituyen en procesos disruptivos tanto en lo económico como en lo social. No obstante, los avances en las percepciones de derechos humanos en los países democráticos han provocado que las políticas prohibicionistas que promueven la conservación del status quo se topen con una efectiva protección de los derechos humanos, especialmente, la autonomía de las personas.
En esta obra abordamos una primera aproximación a los derechos humanos que giran en torno a la protección de un concepto relativamente novedoso como lo es la reducción de daños del tabaquismo, que ha sido posibilitada gracias al advenimiento de novedosos desarrollos tecnológicos, y la percepción de cómo la efectiva protección de esos derechos debe incidir en la mejora de la tolerancia social y, al mismo tiempo, en una ayuda a combatir la mayor pandemia de los tiempos actuales.
