Sinopsis
A partir de la reconceptualización de los modos de representación fílmica derivada de los estudios culturales, y a la cual se denomina "giro espacial", Maximiliano Maza Pérez plantea y responde a preguntas del tipo: ¿Cómo denominar a la nueva cinematografía fronteriza? ¿Cuáles son sus características? ¿De qué manera se representan los elementos que constituyen el cine fronterizo contemporáneo en las recientes producciones fílmicas sobre la frontera méxico-estadounidense?
Para ello, explora y caracteriza los modos de representación fílmica de los espacios rurales y urbanos de la frontera entre México y los Estados Unidos, en un conjunto de películas con temática y ubicación geográfica fronterizas producidas en años recientes; y, a partir de la caracterización de los modos de representación fílmica de dicha región, analiza los elementos que constituyen esta nueva cinematografía, en particular aquellos de carácter espacial y geográfico que contribuyen a que el concepto contemporáneo de frontera trascienda el ámbito de lo tangible para insertarse en la esfera de lo simbólico.
