Sinopsis
El objetivo de este libro es reeditar algunos de los estudios más significativos sobre el Estado colombiano, realizados a lo largo de las últimas cuatro décadas por profesores e investigadores vinculados al Departamento de Ciencia Política de la Universidad de los Andes. Dichos estudios se refieren al proceso de formación histórica del Estado, a su naturaleza y desarrollo y a su papel en el conflicto y la cohesión social. La mayoría de ellos sostienen que el Estado colombiano se caracteriza por su inacabada construcción, su precariedad, su fragmentación o su carácter fallido y se proponen analizar las condiciones políticas, económicas y sociales que dieron origen a dicha situación. Estos análisis se pueden agrupar en cuatro grandes enfoques: el marxista, el sociogenético, el del Estado fallido o fracasado y la nueva tendencia, que podríamos llamar antropológica, que pone el énfasis en la subjetividad, la cultura y la vida cotidiana para establecer, desde allí, una relación con el Estado. El libro es también un aporte a la docencia, en cuanto sirve de compilación de lecturas para un curso sobre el origen y el desarrollo del Estado en Colombia.
