Sinopsis
Los textos que aquí se reúnen buscan cubrir una carencia de información y reflexión respecto del uso de la categoría género, la cual cobra visibilidad para la comunidad universitaria y cuya comprensión permite explorar no sólo la verdadera desigualdad entre los cuerpos sexuados y los seres socialmente construidos, sino que además está en el centro de un debate trascendental: ¿qué papel tienen las mujeres y los hombres en la sociedad? Utilizar esta categoría para referirse a los procedimientos de diferenciación, dominación y subordinación entre los hombres y las mujeres, obliga a remitirse a la fuerza de lo social. A diferencia de otras clases sociales o etnias, es una herramienta de reciente creación y su uso no está generalizado.
Esta compilación de ensayos intenta mostrar una línea argumental que piense este ámbito, el social, y reconozca el peso de lo simbólico en la materialidad de la vida humana.Todos ellos comparten la perspectiva de que el género es una construcción simbólica que se erige por encima de los datos biológicos de la diferencia sexual. Sus autoras/es pretenden rebasar lo descriptivo y se sitúan en el análisis para explorar los significados de ciertas prácticas de algunos grupos humanos.
