Este libro trata de servir al lector de guía en este accidentado territorio intelectual, ayudarle a comprender sus distintos planos y dimensiones, acompañarle en su recorrido por los vericuetos del debate e incitarle a pensar por sí mismo acerca de la naturaleza y la realidad del libre albedrío.
Nos proponemos también defender una determinada posición sobre el libre albedrío, que en la discusión sobre él ha dado en llamarse libertarismo. El libertarismo defiende la realidad del libre albedrío. Pero se distingue de otras posiciones porque considera que el libre albedrío no puede coexistir con el determinismo. El libertarista afirma la existencia del libre albedrío y niega, consiguientemente, el determinismo.
