El riesgo de crédito es un tema de palpitante actualidad aunque nunca ha dejado de estar presente a través de la historia de la Humanidad. Pero, hoy en día, sus efectos se hacen cada vez más palpables en el sistema financiero mundial en un entorno totalmente globalizado. La tormenta de las hipotecas de alto riesgo, comenzada en el verano de 2007 en Estados Unidos, se ha extendido al mundo capitalista occidental debido a que están titulizadas en forma de bonos. Los mercados interbancarios se han visto muy afectados y, en España, empezamos a ver hipotecas a treinta y más años y a un tipo variables que tienen un enorme potencial de riesgo. En este libro se describe y analizan los esfuerzos del Banco Internacional de Pagos para, mediante los denominados Acuerdos de Basilea, dotar de estabilidad al sistema financiero mundial. La tarea es compleja pero en este texto, de relativa fácil lectura, se ofrece un panorama muy completo de lo que hay en el campo del riesgo de crédito y de lo que está por venir.
