En la literatura brasileña, el Sertón (porción territorial del interior del Brasil en los estados de Minas Gerais, Goiás y Bahía), es el espacio en el que se han inspirado muchos escritores brasileños para sus creaciones literarias. Es un tópico que ha atravesado los movimientos y escuelas de la historia literaria de ese país desde los románticos: José de Alencar (1829-1877), Franklin Távora (1842-1888) y Alfredo dEscragnolle Taunay (1843-1899), en cuyas novelas se observa la descripción de la naturaleza del Sertón, así como las características de los hombres que habitan esa región. Estos escritores, en cierta manera, son los precursores de la novela regional brasileña.
