A pesar de la constante presencia de los cínicos en distintos momentos de la historia del pensamiento y del cinismo en filósofos de diferentes épocas y tendencias filosóficas, y aunque incluso en nuestro tiempo algunos filósofos, como Foucault y Onfray, han visto en el cinismo una veta para la comprensión y reflexión de problemas contemporáneos, no hay acerca de este movimiento filosófico estudios como los que encontramos sobre otras prácticas o escuelas filosóficas de la antigüedad.
