Geopolítica, relaciones internacionales y etnicidad. Aspectos de la construcción del Estado en América Latina durante los siglos XIX y XX, es un libro colectivo en el que se incluyen investigaciones elaboradas por un grupo de académicos de distintas universidades y entidades de educación superior dedicadas al amplio estudio de temas históricos y de relaciones internacionales en América Latina y el Caribe. De esta manera, este esfuerzo también es producto de la colaboración de diversas entidades de investigación y educativas de México, Centro y Sudamérica.
Los trabajos aquí reunidos tienen como elemento común hacer un examen crítico sobre el proceso de independencia gestado en el siglo XIX en determinados territorios coloniales del llamado Nuevo Mundo. A la par se analiza cómo una vez conseguida la independencia política, se comenzaron a desarrollar una serie de pugnas y luchas internas en los nuevos países que alcanzaron soberanía, y cómo emerge el dilema de la construcción de los diferentes Estados nacionales.
