En este libro se identifican e interrelacionan varios textos de literatura mexicana en los que se aprecia la presencia de contenidos esotéricos y su configuración con diversos tópicos culturales. La investigación, centrada en el estudio de la recepción en el espacio literario mexicano, reconstruye, con rigor y claridad, la historia de algunas corrientes esotéricas de Occidente en nuestro país, sobre todo el espiritismo, la teosofía y el mesmerismo/magnetismo. Con este novedoso punto de vista, se cuestionan las nociones imperantes en la academia sobre el canon literario mexicano y sus vínculos internacionales, y se revela la dimensión ideológica, temática y estética, invisibilizada hasta hoy, de lo esotérico en el ámbito cultural mexicano durante las últimas décadas del siglo XIX y las primeras del XX.
