Sinopsis
A partir de 1811 y hasta la actualidad, nunca se ha podido gobernar a Colombia durante largo tiempo sin tener que pasar por las urnas; sin embargo, es poco lo que se conoce sobre la historia de sus elecciones, y dos siglos después, había estado en mora hacer el análisis de estas durante las tres primeras décadas del siglo xix (1809-1838). Para contribuir con la comprensión material de este importante tema en Colombia, este libro ha querido restituir la experiencia electoral en sus diferentes aspectos, intelectuales, constitucionales, sociológicos y políticos, desde una perspectiva que engloba todo el proceso, es decir, desde la construcción intelectual de la definición de las condiciones exigidas para votar hasta la proclamación de los resultados y su aceptación o no por parte de la sociedad. Así se demuestra que los comicios —uno de los rituales de la democracia— se implementaron desde 1811 y que se fueron modificando constantemente con el paso del tiempo. También se muestra la riqueza constitucional de las primeras repúblicas neogranadinas (1811-1815) y el significado de los rituales y las prácticas en la construcción del sistema electoral colombiano de la primera mitad del siglo xix.
