Sinopsis
La Red Iberoamericana para el Estudio de Políticas Sociales (RIEPS) tiene como temas principales de investigación el conocimiento de las condiciones actuales de la pobreza y la producción de formas de vulnerabilidad y violencia en Iberoamérica. En el XXIX Congreso de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Sociología, realizado en Chile entre el 29 de septiembre y el 4 de octubre de 2013, algunos miembros de la RIEPS organizaron un panel cuyo título era "Las concepciones de pobreza como construcciones científicas, ideológicas y políticas para América Latina". Desde entonces, este grupo consideró conveniente colocar las reflexiones, presentadas en el referido evento, a disposición de un grupo mayor de estudiosos sobre la pobreza y desigualdades. Esta obra, intitulada La pobreza como construcción científica, ideológica y política. Cuatro ensayos desde América Latina, es resultado de un proceso de investigación que tiene por objetivo sacar a la luz el carácter complejo de la pobreza y los desafíos de cualquier intento de disminución de las llagas sociales derivadas de la privación. Una de las columnas centrales de los análisis contenidos en este libro son las representaciones y las concepciones de pobreza que vienen orientando tanto las acciones como las propuestas y agendas de programas y políticas sociales en algunos países como Argentina y México, así como la crítica a las recomendaciones de un corpus de procedimientos que sean capaces de disminuir la miseria y la exclusión social, sugerencias hechas a los gobernantes, a los liderazgos políticos y a las organizaciones de la sociedad civil por el Banco Mundial y el PNUD (Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo), este último por medio de los IDH (Informes del Desarrollo Humano).
