En el espacio académico "Clínica optométrica básica" se prepara al futuro optómetra para su práctica profesional, debido a que construye los conocimientos necesarios para realizar un examen refractivo. Su método clínico se fundamenta principalmente en el aprendizaje que se adquiere con base en la experiencia, combinando así el saber con la capacidad de hacer. Para poner en práctica este método, es importante entrelazar los conceptos teóricos previamente adquiridos, con la vivencia que proporciona la experiencia. El beneficio para el estudiante consiste en adquirir y desarrollar una formación adecuada para su desempeño clínico. Este espacio académico incluye horas de práctica en consultorios dotados con equipos especiales adecuados para que cada alumno adquiera la destreza requerida en la atención de pacientes. Estas prácticas se realizan entre compañeros y con pacientes particulares con la guía, orientación y acompañamiento del docente.
