Este libro incluye 12 trabajos sobre las elecciones locales que tuvieron lugar en 2004 y 2005, y es de utilidad para reconocer las rutas de la democracia mexicana. Como sabemos, el trayecto seguido por la democratización política por la vía electoral, ha sido calificado como una vía federalista o centrípeta, por ocurrir de la periferia al centro; es decir, a partir de los triunfos de candidatos de oposición en elecciones locales, posteriormente arribaría el cambio al Congreso de la Unión y a la presidencia de la República. Los trabajos reunidos permiten reconocer las vicisitudes de la transformación del mapa político mexicano durante el sexenio del autodenominado "gobierno del cambio". Es útil también, porque permite reconocer muchas de las claves de la disputa por el poder local en los años recientes y en el futuro mediato.
