El verano de 2017 atestiguó el nacimiento de la primera liga profesional de futbol femenino en México (la LMXF). En diciembre de 2018 la selección mexicana femenina sub-17 conquistó el subcampeonato en el Mundial de Uruguay 2018. Ambos hitos y proezas difícilmente pueden ser explicados en aislamiento de hitos y proezas en otros deportes (las medallas de oro, plata y bronce en tres diferentes Olimpiadas de la taekwondoín María del Rosario Espinoza), así como hitos más allá de las canchas deportivas: en la UNAM, la matriculación total de mujeres superó a la de los hombres en 2001; o bien, la actual Legislatura (LXIV) cuenta con un nivel sin precedentes de mujeres, al grado de ser conocida como “La Legislatura de la paridad de género”. Este libro brinda luz sobre la forma en que diferentes regímenes transnacionales de género, algunos originados en la Conferencia de Brighton, otros en la FIFA, UEFA, COI, han descendido gradualmente hasta modificar políticas en una confederación distante como lo es Conmebol, finalmente detonando la creación de dos ligas profesionales femeninas en dos países icónicos del futbol latinoamericano: México (en 2017) y Argentina (en 2019).
