Sinopsis
Parte de la literatura escrita en la América española del siglo XVII está representada en hagiografías. Su amplia recepción demuestra la importancia que tuvieron como textos modeladores de conducta y como obras de recreación, ya que sus páginas encierran hechos insólitos que reforzaron el aspecto ejemplar e idealizaron a sus protagonistas al resultar siempre victoriosas de los enfrentamientos contra el mal. Conformaron el imaginario de la época y afianzaron la convivencia entre la realidad y lo sobrenatural. Esta incidencia permitió a las autoras recrear vivencias que tal vez hayan sido producto del encierro y del ayuno prolongados proporcionándoles una nueva perspectiva. Lo sobrenatural no es en este texto, en sentido lato, un rasgo fantástico, sino el resultado de una forma de ver la vida que estuvo marcada por el Barroco de Indias y en la que participaron, principalmente, Dios, el demonio y las religiosas.
