El autor de este trabajo, Ciriaco Tista Olmos, siempre ha abogado tanto por un correcto conocimiento de la conducta y el lugar que corresponde a las especies animales, como por una relación equilibrada con la especie humana, en un planeta Tierra amenazado por el desarrollo económico y tecnológico, depredador de la denominada globalización. Por eso, en el prólogo de Los animales y yo el autor dice: "Los humanos, 'sapiens' y 'conscientes', en términos generales no se dan cuenta de lo bello de la naturaleza y de la gran fauna que les rodea, porque son la especie 'superior'; pero están muy lejos de mantener el respeto que se debe tener por todas y cada una de las especies animales que existen en el mundo, además de su responsabilidad por cuidarlas y conservarlas".
