Hoy día se cree que los gays vivieron ocultos hasta la «revolución gay» de la década de 1970 y los primeros movimientos homosexuales de la Transición. Según este lugar común, no hubo prácticamente nada antes de estas fechas. Sin embargo, el historiador Geoffroy Huard demuestra que nada más lejos de la realidad. Gracias a un exhaustivo trabajo ?en archivos inéditos consultados por primera vez desde la democracia, como los de la Brigada Mundana de París, los de los juzgados de vagos y maleantes, de peligrosidad y rehabilitación social de Cataluña, además de informes policiales, jurídicos, médicos, artículos de prensa, novelas y entrevistas con actores de la época? el autor reconstruye el intenso mundo gay que existía tanto en el París de los «treinta años gloriosos» como en la Barcelona franquista entre 1945 y 1975. Se trata, por tanto, de un enfoque nuevo que reconsidera la historia reciente de los «invertidos» en ambos países.
