Acercándonos a las décadas centrales del siglo veintiuno este libro se presenta como un fascinante conjunto de ideas sobre el debate filosófico de la mejora de los seres humanos. Reúne a algunas de las principales figuras del debate británico y a interesantes colaboradores del ámbito hispanohablante.
Los artículos de este volumen no tienen nada que ver con aquellos del debate de los años noventa. Estos no se limitan a señalar posibilidades científicas. No tratan la ciencia como una mera fuente de ideas para provocadores experimentos mentales sobre la inserción de genes de Michael Jordan en embriones; por el contrario, están vinculados seriamente con la ciencia. En este volumen encontrarán reflexiones meditadas sobre el uso de la oxitocina, las aplicaciones de CRISPR, el uso del neurofeedback para la mejora moral y la posible aplicación de la inteligencia artificial a la toma de decisiones morales. El hecho de que este volumen se interese tanto por los detalles científicos le otorga una relevancia para el futuro del debate sobre la mejora que estaba ausente en las discusiones de los años noventa. Supongo que esta diferencia permitirá a estos artículos aportar ese avance filosófico al que no podían aspirar los debates anteriores.
