Este libro recoge el trabajo de trece destacados estudiosos de diferentes países, reunidos en torno al objetivo de narrar historias de la educación.
Entre las principales preocupaciones de la obra está el hacer hincapié en la cualidad narrativa de esa historia y en la crítica de la herencia positivista que había permeado las prácticas historiográficas en el terreno de la educación. Las colaboraciones se aglutinan en tres ejes: 1. Territorios transversales, donde se incluyen los artículos que exploran al sujeto desde diferentes soluciones y variados acercamientos a lo que se considera biografía histórica; 2. Puentes y comunidades, en el están los artículos referidos al mundo no escolarizado; 3. Vislumbres y reminisencias, que engloba los trabajos sobre las perspectivas de futuro y el anclaje en los recuerdos. A tráves de todos ellos la historia de la educación se inscribe en la comprensión de nuestro presente, y no tanto en la explicación del pasado, en lo cual radican claves importantes para acercarnos a nuestro quehacer, historiar la educación, siempre en construcción
