En esta obra, Fernando González Dávila nos entrega el fruto de una investigación centrada en la vida y obra de alguien ampliamente reconocido en el ámbito científico, sobre el cual se han escrito numerosas páginas; de ahí el desafío de ofrecer un enfoque propositivo e innovador para comprender al personaje y, simultáneamente, mostrar el entorno social de fin del siglo XIX e inicio del siguiente en el que se desarrolla esta historia.
