El síndrome de desacondicionamiento físico (SDF) se caracteriza por la reducción del desempeño tanto físico como mental que ocurre rápidamente cuando el individuo deja de participar en sus actividades regulares de la vida diaria debido a una enfermedad, y generalmente está asociado a periodos prolongados de inmovilización.La cartilla presenta una propuesta de evaluación e intervención para pacientes hospitalizados con sdf con el objetivo de brindar una herramienta comprensiva sobre la complejidad y abordaje del síndrome y establecer un programa de intervención basado en la evaluación objetiva. El texto ofrece un análisis detallado de los efectos fisiológicos del reposo prolongado en los sistemas del cuerpo humano y su impacto en la funcionalidad y calidad de vida; emplea categorías de evaluación basadas en la clasificación establecida por la American Physical Therapy Association (apta) y, finalmente, propone un programa de intervención fisioterapéutica de acuerdo con los grados de severidad del SDF.
