Este volumen ofrece un conjunto de perspectivas acerca del proceso independentista y revolucionario protagonizado por los Estados que conforman el vasto territorio conocido como América Latina y el Caribe. De este modo, los autores de los textos que conforman esta obra oscilan entre diferentes temas que conciernen a todas las naciones nuestroamericanas, con base en diversas corrientes historiográficas, filosóficas y políticas, sin perder de vista el núcleo de esta obra: abrir un espacio de reflexión y crítica acerca de lo que han significado las revoluciones en América Latina y el Caribe en contraposición a la reinterpretación que de éstas han querido imponer los representantes del pensamiento capitalista y neoliberal, incluido el Estado mexicano, para despojarlas de todo su fundamento filosófico y transformarlas en parte de una historia caricaturizada que convenga a sus intereses.
