Sinopsis
En las costas del Caribe Colombiano donde convergen las tradiciones ancestrales del arte africano, música, bailes, trajes, máscaras, decoraciones, carros; el Carnaval de Barranquilla, Patrimonio Oral e Inmaterial de la Humanidad, es una de las expresiones de mayor riqueza cultural y estética. Las fiestas populares han sido un crisol para el mestizaje: El pensamiento mágico-religioso de evocaciones orales africanas, se fusiona con el arte estableciendo fórmulas de acción para la comunicación de la cultura contemporánea. Contexto particular, arte, magia, rito participan de la problemática actual.
El Carnaval de Barranquilla -"Quien lo vive es quien lo goza" -, es la expresión de una colectividad. Cantos, cumbiambas, bailes y disfraces, exaltan el júbilo, actitudes e identificación mítica que trascienden la vida cotidiana de cada una de las personas que se disfraza y participa. Las reminiscencias totémicas que se dan en forma inconsciente en los danzantes ataviados de máscaras zoomorfas hacen ver el disfraz como transposición mítica que constituye lo trascendental y alinea al hombre al plano del espíritu.
A través de sus fotografías y textos críticos, Javier Mojica Madera, devela, desde su interior, los semblantes rituales del Carnaval de Barranquilla, mezcla de rostro y vestigio, evidenciando las circunstancias culturales que convergen en el territorio instituyendo una característica particular que sintetiza la condición del hombre caribe.
