Sinopsis
Desde su aparición en el escenario nacional en los años cincuenta, la televisión ha estado involucrada en la correlación de fuerzas de las estructuras de poder, desde cuyos niveles superiores dominan dos élites distintas y en competencia: el sector público y el privado.
En Televisión y poder se analiza el papel de la televisión en las relaciones de las dos élites mexicanas durante el siglo pasado; puede observarse cómo la televisión privada favorece al gobierno en turno cuando el proyecto ideológico es congruente con los intereses de la élite privada. Por el contrario, cuando existe un distanciamiento entre ambos intereses, la TV privada retira su apoyo y el Estado se ve en la necesidad de crear y fortalecer sus propios sistemas de televisión.
Tanto el reforzamiento del consumo como las acciones gubernamentales representan un juego por el control de legitimación, en el que la televisión ha servido como reproductora de los sistemas sociales vigentes.
