La tortura, a diferencia de otras formas de violencia política, que simplemente anulan al opositor, produce una subjetividad cuya característica es la de devenir constantemente como un otro de sí mismo, como un sobreviviente que continúa viviendo como una pura ausencia de sí mismo. ¿cómo retoma su vida el torturado? ¿Simplemente vuelve sobre el punto que quedó quebrado por la tortura para retomarlo, o, por el contrario, se ve lanzado hacia un presente enigmático e indescifrable en el que él representa el enigma de sí mismo, con el peso de buscar el sentido de una vida que el siente le ha sido completamente arrebatada? ¿Cómo descifra esa vida enigmática el torturado, una vez que tiene ante sí la posibilidad de reconstruirse?...
